Very beautiful complex story
Book Review: LSD Memoirs: A Love Story by Pavel Cerny
Some novels tell a story. Others expose the soul. LSD Memoirs: A Love Story does the latter with fearless honesty and emotional intensity that refuses to let you look away.
Set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of Prague during the final years of communism, this novel is more than a love story it’s a journey into identity, desire, and self-discovery. At its heart is a young man caught between worlds: between political unrest and personal awakening, between loving a woman and being drawn to a man, between who he is and who he’s afraid to become.
As I began reading this book, I immediately noticed the flavor of a Christopher Isherwood story though it takes place in Prague during the 1960’s. The book is filled with discovery. Theater is the main occupation of the characters, most are enrolled in an experimental LSD group. The characters are well drawn. Some are homosexual although being the 1960’s, a person’s sexuality was very secretive. It is a fascinating quick read with humor and some painful moments wrapped up tightly in a novel that stays with you. I highly recommend checking out this fascinating book!
