Pavel Cerny is a versatile storyteller whose work spans multiple genres, including children’s literature, dark fantasy, memoir, and art publications. Known for his originality, narrative depth, and distinctive voice, Pavel has developed a diverse literary portfolio that blends imagination with personal experience.

After spending 22 years as a teacher, Pavel’s life took a new direction during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he stepped away from teaching to focus on writing full time. His first novel, “Hamlet in Baltimore,” is a horror-fantasy story inspired by the early life of Edgar Allan Poe, exploring themes of mystery, imagination, and gothic storytelling. The success of this novel inspired Pavel to further explore Poe’s life through additional works, combining historical inspiration with imaginative fiction.

Alongside his darker writing, Pavel created a Charming children’s trilogy about a six-year-old boy named Alex and his talking cat. Filled with humor, adventure, and life lessons, the trilogy includes:

  • Alex and the Amazing Adventures
  • Alex and the New Amazing Adventures

The characters are well drawn. Some are homosexual although being the 1960’s, a person’s sexuality was very secretive. It is a fascinating quick read with humor and some painful moments wrapped up tightly in a novel that stays with you. I highly recommend checking out this fascinating book!

As I began reading this book, I immediately noticed the flavor of a Christopher Isherwood story though it takes place in Prague during the 1960’s. The book is filled with discovery. Theater is the main occupation of the characters, most are enrolled in an experimental LSD group
